Razionale scientifico

Future projections estimate that the proportion of older people (aged ≥50 years) living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIV) within the HIV-positive population is growing, and this number is expected to keep increasing. This trend is associated with specific clinical challenges, including multimorbidity, polypharmacy, cognitive decline, frailty, and age-related comorbidities, which often arise earlier and more frequently in PLHIV than in the general population. In this context, the appropriateness of prescribing, the feasibility of deprescribing, and the assessment of physical performance and frailty have become essential components of the correct management of older individuals with HIV. Building on the success of previous editions, the Geriatric HIV Conference returns with its fourth edition, offering a structured two-day CME program focused on these emerging needs. The course will address key topics including the integration of artificial intelligence into clinical practice, stigma and ageism, long acting antiretroviral therapies, sexual health in older PLHIV, deprescribing strategies, biomarkers and mental health, respiratory and cardiovascular frailty, new paradigms in metabolic medicine and longevity, as well as research developments presented in the GEPPO session. The program includes keynote lectures, thematic sessions, and innovative interactive formats designed to assess perceptions, promote professional discussion, and consolidate learning. The overall aim is to strengthen clinicians' competencies in the personalized, evidence-based, and sustainable management of older PLHIV, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to improve clinical decision-making and patient outcomes.
